Artist Statement
Sarah Fielding-Ricci wields her pastels and paints with skilled and joyous abandon. Chartreuse, burning orange, hot, hot pink, violet, sky blue --- and you see her subject begin to explode with fiery light that consumes the beholder.
Inspired by her fierce colors, her enthusiastic students nicknamed her "Fearless," and scrawled it on her easel next to the quote "Every truly great accomplishment is at first impossible," a truth she finds both stimulating and liberating.
Whether it's pastel, oil, watercolor, pencil or ink, Sarah is driven to capture how she sees light on everything. Her world is bursting with life: color, light, water and endless sky - all the elements that surrounded her as a child growing up in the West.
Beckoning dunes, secret saltwater marshes, and vibrant sunflowers are a continuing theme, but Sarah also finds inspiration in a rustic barn, a graceful pose, a haunting face or an overturned rowboat.
Sarah founded the prestigious Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod in 1995 and served as its President until 2002. She is a founding member of "21 in Truro." Sarah's paintings have appeared in Best of America Pastel Artists Volume II, numerous exhibits, winning awards and critical acclaim.
She is currently living a wanderers life, touring the country in an RV and creating a watercolorist's view of her life on the road.
Light and Shadow dance and play in ever changing hues to reveal the forms we call life.
